The index uses a price-weighted chained-return methodology, normalized to 1,000 at the date of the first recorded sale. Each component's influence is proportional to the square root of its price — so a Fire at $10,000 carries significantly more weight than a Base at $80, but no single card can dominate the index entirely. This reflects the reality that rare, high-value cards are more meaningful signals of market health than cheap, liquid ones. A component's last-sold price carries forward until that component next sells. Components whose last sale is older than 60 days are flagged as stale.
